Watch out folks – some more movie-game adaptations are on their way – in the form of action game Prince of Persia and MMO epic World of Warcraft. Who’s directing who, and what are the trailers like?
Well one thing’s for sure – Uwe Boll isn’t directing neither of them! Wahoo! The guy is an absolute travesty, having produced such disasters as Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne and House of the Dead, and must be stopped. He’s already tried to get the rights to World of Warcraft as detailed below, but thankfully there’s some good news about that… If you haven’t done so yet, go and sign the petition to stop him making shit movies of good games. He officially said he will stop if it gets 1 million signatures, and as of July 2009 it has 340,000. Prince of Persia It’s certainly looking all action-packed so far, and suitably soppy too – with Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko) as the Prince and Gemma Arterton (St Trinians, Quantum of Solace) as the Princess. Despite pictures too sexy for my shirt I can’t help having doubts over this one. Sure Jerry Bruckheimer is producing, but I can’t help feeling… it’s going to be Tomb Raider all over again. No offence, miss Jolie. World of Warcraft As described above, shit director Uwe Boll approached Blizzard for the rights to produce this film, but they replied: “We will not sell the movie rights, not to you…especially not to you. Because it’s such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income.” Good for you Blizzard. There are no other details about the film other than veteran Sam Raimi will be directing, but I don’t know if that’s a good thing. Spiderman good, Drag Me To Hell bad… Anyway it may almost be five years old this November, but WoW still has one of my favourite cinematic intros to a computer game ever.
